Double Feature - D3-100 Years of VR Service & R711 - Back in Steam.

R711 Back in Steam Of the 70 ‘R’ class locomotives built between 1951 and 1953, only seven remain. R711 entered service on the 28th of August 1951 and was withdrawn in August 1965. It languished in a Geelong locomotive depot before being put on display outside Bendigo station. In this programme we follow the restoration process and include footage of its glory days whilst in regular service.

D3-100 Years of Service The D3 class locomotives have become a classic in Victorian Railways locomotive design. The first of 261 examples was built in 1902. They were originally classed Dd. To coincide with the centenary of the last operating example of the class, D3 639, we pay tribute by featuring a short history and some footage of the D3’s in action.
